About
Us
Highlands at Mechums River is a community of 142 Manor Homes which started in 1992 (with the last house being finished in late 1997). We have residents of all ages; from first-time homeowners in their 20's to retired folks. Many of our residents work at the University of Virginia or the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center (as staff, faculty, nurses, or doctors), which is one reason for a somewhat high turnover rate of homeowners here. In our neighborhood there are many families with children, from babies to elementary school age to high school age, and thus there are many stay-at-home moms here as well. Along with families come pets, and we do have quite a few dog and cat owners. Our neighborhood is very friendly, peaceful, and picturesque. Most people live here because of the rural setting, peacefulness, mountain views, clean air - only 10 miles west from Charlottesville. You constantly see people out walking, running, working in their yards, walking their dogs, or playing. Our children attend Albemarle County Public Schools. Children grades K-5 go to Crozet Elementary School, grades 6-8 go to J.T. Henley Middle School, and grades 9-12 go to Western Albemarle High School. All of these schools are in Crozet, and they are all excellent! You may be visiting this site as an interested homeowner, a newcomer to the neighborhood, or as a potential new homeowner trying to learn more about us. Whatever the reason, please look over our pages to find more information including photos, personnel, documents, helpful numbers and links, and current news and issues of interest. Also, please don't hesitate to contact us for any questions, comments, or concerns you may have. Because Highlands at Mechums River has many amenities along with considerable common area, we are organized into the Highlands at Mechums River Homeowner's Association. Our Association provides maintainence of the common area as well as repair and replacement of roofs, lawn mowing and fertilizing in the front and side yards of all homes, and termite inspection and treatment. Because of all these provisions, which are set forth in our Declaration of Covenants, membership in the Association is mandatory for all homeowners. The monthly assessment (dues) for the Association is currently $90.75. |
